Participation in Initiatives

United Nations Global Compact (GC), SDGs

The Taisei Group participated in the GC in April 2018 and committed to disseminating and implementing the Ten Principles in the four areas of human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption. At the same time, it is actively participating in various subcommittees sponsored by the Global Compact Network Japan (GCNJ), such as the Subcommittee on SDGs and the Subcommittee on Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD), the Subcommittee on Circular Economy. As well as engaging in activities geared toward observing “Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact”, we will advance various initiatives that contribute to realizing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through our business activities.

Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact

Human Rights Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights.
Principle 2: Make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
Labour Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining.
Principle 4: The elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour.
Principle 5: The effective abolition of child labour.
Principle 6: The elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
Environment Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges.
Principle 8: Undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility.
Principle 9: Encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
Anti-Corruption Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.

TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures) - TCFD Consortium

In July 2020, Taisei Corporation declared its support for the TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures) recommendations, which aim to facilitate companies to disclose climate-related information. As a member of the TCFD consortium, We will continue to practice appropriate disclosure in line with TCFD recommendations.

CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project)

Taisei Corporation also participate in environment-related initiatives such as the Science Based Target (SBT) and the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). We have responded to the questionnaire from the CDP Climate Change, a global disclosure program for corporate information on climate change risks.

EcoVadis is a ratings provider that has developed its own platform for evaluating the performance of companies in terms of environmental and social sustainability. Taisei Corporation has been registered with EcoVadis since fiscal 2019 as a supplier and started to disclose required information. We obtained a silver medal in the fiscal 2020 assessment.

Keidanren (Japan Business Federation)

The Taisei Group is committed, as a member of Keidanren, to respect the content of its Charter of Corporate Behavior and carry out activities toward the “realization of a sustainable society,” which Keidanren aims to achieve. We participate in the committees including the following:

  • Keidanren Biodiversity Declaration Initiative

Nikkenren (Japan Federation of Construction Contractors)

In 2017, the Japan Federation of Construction Contractors (hereinafter referred to as Nikkenren), formulated the Action Plan for the Realization of a Five-Day Work Week as a basic policy and concrete measures to realize a five-day work week at construction sites. As a member company of the Nikkenren, Taisei corporation are working together in the industry as a whole.

Council for Better Corporate Citizenship (CBCC)

As a member company of the Council for Better Corporate Citizenship (CBCC), an affiliated organization of Keidanren(Japan Business Federation), Taisei corporation participate in CBCC’s CSR awareness activities.

Japan Forum of Business and Society (JFBS)

With regard to the relationship between companies and society and various issues in sustainable development, we participate in the JFBS, a forum for connecting theory, field, and policy through wide-ranging cooperation between academic circles, industry, government, labor circles, consumer organizations, NPOs, and NGOs in Japan and overseas. We make use of knowledge gained at its annual conference and other events to promote CSR activities.

The Valuable 500

The Valuable 500 is a global initiative launched during the World Economic Forum (Davos) held in January 2019. On May 7, 2021, Taisei Corporation (President: Yoshiro AIKAWA) joined “The Valuable 500,” a global initiative aiming to enhance disability inclusion in society through business leadership and opportunity.
