TAISEI Corporation (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Yoshiro Aikawa), Bouygues Travaux Publics (Head Office: Guyancourt, France; CEO: Philippe Amequin) and Dr. Techn. Olav Olsen (Head Office: Norway; CEO: Olav Weider) have signed a memorandum of understanding aiming at developing the OO-STAR floating foundation for the Japanese offshore wind power market.

OO-STAR is a patented semi-submersible wind turbine foundation concept, originally developed by Dr.techn. Olav Olsen and later transferred to Floating Wind Solutions (FWS), which Bouygues Travaux Publics has just acquired. The hydrodynamic and structural behavior of the foundation guarantees an optimal performance of the turbine and a high durability of the structure.

The agreement is a significant step for TAISEI to establish the aimed leading position as Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractor in the floating offshore wind market in Japan. Dr. Techn. Olav Olsen and Bouygues Travaux Publics will combine their engineering and construction experience to TAISEI Corporation’s overall expertise and Japanese market knowledge to optimize the design and implantation process of this technology, aiming to provide an integrated, innovative and competitive solution.

The semi-submersible concrete foundations will ultimately address the large Japanese floating offshore wind market by being mass-produced in a timely and cost-effective manner. TAISEI Corporation has already entered an agreement with Muroran City for the development of technology related to floating offshore wind power generation in order to secure a suitable location for the mass production of such structures.
