This paper summarizes the behavior of indoor chemical substance concentration in the office building during two years after the interior decoration renewal. Investigated chemical substances were six substances selected in the guideline of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare and TVOC, Total Volatile Organic Compound. As a measure of TVOC behavior, "TVOC ratio" was defined as a ratio between substances listed in the guideline and those not listed in the guideline. The effect of interior specifications on the TVOC ratio and the change of the TVOC ratio with time were analyzed.
As a result, it was found that formaldehyde concentration changes in response to room temperature, however clear tendency of concentration decay with time was not observed. No temperature dependency was observed for Toluene, Xylene, and TVOC concentration. From the results of examination of TVOC ratio at several rooms showing relatively high TVOC concentration immediately after the renewal, it was found that, in many rooms, concentration of non-guideline VOCs concentration is higher than that of guideline VOCs. This work has clarified that information of both guideline VOCs and non-guideline VOCs are important for selecting the appropriate measures to reduce indoor TVOC concentration.
