Development of a Technology for Effectively Using Concrete Rubble from the Great East Japan Earthquake
The Great East Japan Earthquake produced massive amounts of rubble. Since then, special processing and the reuse of concrete rubble have become important topics. We have developed a technology that can quickly process large amounts of concrete rubble, coarsely crush it, and mix it with cement and water to produce an extremely dry concrete with no slump. A vibratory roller can be used for compaction by selecting a mix proportion appropriate for table vibrators. Furthermore, the compressive strength can be modified by adjusting the water-cement ratio in the same manner as conventional concrete, allowing it to be tailored to different purposes, such as bank or backfill materials that require a compressive strength of 1.5 N/mm2, or as a component material for shore protection systems that require a compressive strength of 6.0 N/mm2. Effectively utilized as a construction material, this material can reduce processing costs and labor, as well as supplement construction materials that are in short supply.
