Using a Multi-agent Simulator to Study Crowd Evacuation after an Earthquake
The Influences of Various Human Characteristics on Crowd Evacuation Behavior
Sayaka IGARASHI*1, Masatoshi NAKAMURA*1 and Shigehiro SAKAMOTO*2
A multi-agent simulator and the proposed method are used for studying how a crowd evacuates from an office floor in a fire after an earthquake. The method incorporates various human characteristics as well as furniture scattered in the room. The first half of the paper presents the simulation results for verifying the method’s precision. Crowd-flow coefficients for various types of exits and various crowd velocities, including those of wheelchair users, are evaluated as parameters of the evacuees’ characteristics, numbers, and densities. The results show good agreement with the results of experiments, and indicate that the variations in the velocity of the evacuee are an important parameter of the crowd flow coefficient. The latter half of the paper describes the results for the post-earthquake fire. Injured evacuees and scattered furniture are incorporated in the simulation. The results confirmed that the evacuation time becomes longer as the seismic intensity increases.
