In this report, we review our two microbiological
studies in national project "MH21" for research and development of
methane hydrate. One of them is the study on generation mechanism of methane
hydrate, which is distributed in deep sea sediments surrounding Japan. We studied
on microbial effects to produce methane gas in the deep sea sediment at Nankai-Trough,
which is famous place as the methane hydrate deposited site, as same as subterranean
gas fields at Mobara and Niigata. The other one is the study on the detection
of leakage methane gas in the sea floor using bio-marker. This study will be
useful at a commercial phase to prevent the leakage methane. We are studying
the distribution of methane oxidizing bacteria as a bio-marker. |
