The authors have developed a liquefaction countermeasure
by applying newly developed expansive and hardening material 'TAFDEX' to sand
compaction technique. The material mainly consists of hard-burnt lime and steelmaking
slag, which shows the volumetric expansion of about 80 % and gradual strength
increase with time. Since the increase in the improvement ratio due to the
expansion can be taken in design, the required number of improvement piles
can be reduced significantly compared with the conventional sand compaction
piles. This paper mainly presents the results from laboratory expansion tests
of the material, on-site production test of the material, and the trial execution
with the use of the actual compaction machine. Through a series of the studies,
the validity and the effectiveness of the developed method are confirmed. |
