A part of the Trans-Kawasaki Expressway Route is now under construction by the MMST Method. A large cross-section tunnel is first excavated as a shell using shield machines with small cross-sections, then shell structure is completed by connecting these smaller excavations together, and finally the soil is excavated from within the shell to finish the work. So main girders of the steel shell segment is designed as bending members when MMST tunnel structure is completed, that the segment joints and the connections between elemental tunnels are considered indispensable. This paper focuses on the experimental investigation for the performances of members which involves segment joints and the connective structure. |
