From a fire safety standpoint, the RCFT column cast inside a steel tube is essentially a reinforced concrete column whose concrete and rebars are both high-strength. The objective of the study is to experimentally evaluate the fire performance of the RCFT columns, not only under vertical loads but also subjected to horizontal deformations induced by the during-fire thermal elongation of the steel beams connected to the column top. During heating, the following data were recorded every thirty seconds: axial and transverse loads/displacements of the column; furnace, tube, rebar, and concrete temperatures; and strains of rebars while being heated up to approximately 300 degrees C. The fire performance of the RCFT column models varied from 138 to 213 minutes, depending on the horizontal deformation ratio. |
