Special Exhibition 2007 - Part 1
"John Lennon and Me - 30 years since then/ Meeting in Karuizawa"



The John Lennon Museum (Junichi Mizusawa, General Manager of the Museum/ Chuo-ku, Saitama-city) will hold the special exhibition 2007 under the main theme of "John Lennon and Me" at Event Room on the 5th floor, dividing into two terms.

It has been 30 years since the Lennon family visited Karuizawa. With a focus on the Lennon family that spent the peaceful summer in Karuizawa, we will introduce the local people's soothing episodes with the family and Karuizawa's landscape that John saw, through the actual experiences and words of the local people who met John at that time.

Moreover, elementary and junior high school students will get free admission to the Museum during the summer vacation from July 21 through August 31, and all the visitors to the Museum will receive a guidebook of John Lennon's life and the highlights of the Museum. We will also place useful tour guide sheets to read in the Museum beside the Information Counter.

<Outline of the Special Exhibition - Part 1>

 
Official Title: "John Lennon and Me - 30 years since then/ Meeting in Karuizawa"

Period: July 21, 2007 - September 30, 2007
Admission: Only admission to the Museum is required
Exhibit Contents:
1. John Lennon in Karuizawa/
  Introducing the way the Lennon family spent the summer in Karuizawa by themselves for three years from 1977 to 1979, by use of photographs taken by the photographer Fumiya Saimaru (*1), John's illustrations, and his artworks.
  Main Exhibits: The Lennon Family's photographs taken by the photographer Fumiya Saimaru, Four illustrations created by John Lennon, and "Mona Yoko"
2. John Lennon and People in Karuizawa/
  Introducing John's real face through the interview films of the local people who met John during his stay in Karuizawa.
  Main Exhibits: Polaroid camera used by John, and John's panama hat
3. John Lennon and the Times/
  Introducing incidents in Japan and other countries from John's birth (1980) until today (2007) in chronological order, with a central focus on the times during John's stay in Karuizawa from 1977 to 1979.
4. John Lennon and All the Visitors to the Museum/
  We will receive messages to John from the visitors. These messages will be sent to the "Imagine Peace Tower" (*2) which will be established in October 2007 in Reykjavik, Iceland.
   

*1 - Mr. Fumiya Saimaru: The photographer who played the role of the Lennon family's private assistant

*2 - Imagine Peace Tower: The Peace Tower which was envisioned by Ms. Yoko Ono. It will be inaugurated and lighted up in the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik, on October 9, 2007, John Lennon' s birthday. Capsules containing messages of wishes and hopes for world peace from around the world will be filled in.
