Study on Numerical Prediction of RASTI for Evaluating Speech Privacy
Koji YAMAGUCHI*1, Kiyoshi MASUDA*1 and Masahiro KAITE*1
Recently, in Japan, speech privacy is becoming a growing concern in the hospital, the drugstore, and the bank, etc. For conversations with third parties, speech privacy comprises prevention of interference and information leakage. This study examines information leakage prevention. Speech privacy has been studied in the United States for the past 50 years. STI (Speech Transmission Index) has been proposed as an evaluation index for the Sound and Vibration Design Guidelines for Health Care Facilities in the United States. The technique to confirm situation of speech privacy by predicting STI during the design and plan stages was examined. FDTD (Finite Difference Time Domain) method, which takes into consideration the reflection and diffraction of sound waves, is used to predict the impulse response, which is needed for calculating the STI. In this study, we applied RASTI (Rapid STI), a simplified version of STI, and examined the accuracy of the prediction method by comparing the calculated results with the results of experiments in which a partition was set up. The effect of the partition on speech privacy was predicted by calculating RASTI distribution.
