For an intermediate-depth radioactive waste repository, we developed a reduced-scale mobile apparatus with high-volume buckets and vibrating scraper-blades suitable for finishing work. A field test of the apparatus' filling performance was conducted using both filling mortar and upper shield concrete with high fluidity. The specific feature of this apparatus has potential capable of remote and successive operations through all the procedures, from filling around nuclear wastes to finishing work, which is essential in hot areas due to radioactive environments.
The test verified that the apparatus could achieve the level of flatness for the filling mortar without vibration that the client demands. Moreover, the vibrating scraper-blades can flatten bumps as high as 10 centimeters, as well as perform finishing work on upper shield concrete that has a lower fluidity than the filling mortar. Accordingly, such a promising filling method as mentioned above will bring favorable possibilities to satisfy strict specifications of the repository.
