Selection of Floor Coating Materials and Coating Method for Food Factories

Yoshie TAKAHASHI *1, Hiroshi KUBOTA *1 and Haruo SASAKI *2

The concrete floors of food processing factories are often coated with paint. However, because of the harsh conditions of use, the paint often blisters and peels. These problems are aggravated by the frequently short interval between concrete placement and painting due tight construction schedules. In this study, we investigated the ability of various coating materials and methods to prevent blistering and peeling. The study confirmed that appropriate paints can be selected by examining the results of tests for accelerated blistering, cracking, abrasion resistance, hot water resistance, and impact resistance. By using the inorganic surface preparation material developed in this study, painting can begin two days after the concrete is placed.
