Steel plate reinforced concrete (SPRC) consists of plain concrete between two steel plates connected to the concrete by welded shear studs. The system eliminates the need for formwork of conventional reinforcement concrete, can reduce construction periods and costs by off-site prefabrication and in-place installation. Regarding SPRC walls, a design method has been already established as a result from a joint research program co-funded by parties in nuclear power industries in Japan. Our goal is to establish a design procedure for general structures, where height-to-thickness ratios of walls are larger than the existing studies. The paper summarizes the results of our shear and compressive tests, in which steel plates carry a larger portion of loads compared with thicker walls in nuclear power plants.
