Underground wall barriers have been used as a
method for screening ground vibrations produced by artificial sources. However,
there has been a few knowledge about the effect of those barriers on reduction
of vibrations. In the present study, parametric analysis was performed to study
the effect of the barriers by employing the 3D hybrid analysis method combining
the 3D FEM with the 3D thin layer method. The analysis showed us the following
conclusion ; 1) the wall barriers were effective in reducing UD component of
vibrations just behind them, 2) the wall barrier of 3-layered structure was
the most effective, 3) the trench was also able to be used as a barrier to
screen ground vibrations, 4) Despite these effects, it revealed that the wall
barriers on the reduction of the horizontal component of vibration was insufficient
in reducing ground vibrations except for high frequency range. |
