In January 2011, we organized "Family Day," a day for employees' families to visit the workplace. The event aimed to help employees' families to understand the company and construction business as well as to strengthen family bonds. 230 randomly selected participants toured construction sites, made paper buildings, and experienced the company cafeteria.
Taisei started this training program in 2010 in order to instill negotiation skills essential for overseas assignment, management skills necessary for managing work properly and swiftly, and network-building skills required for establishing a broad network of connections. Under the instruction of senior staff, seven new employees engaged in construction work, marketing support, procurement, and other activities at project sites in Singapore, Doha, Dubai, Turkey, and the Philippines.
This training program helps employees to understand work-life balance properly and encourages employees to review their style of working in order to develop good work-life balance. To increase productivity and employees' motivation, the program provides participants with opportunities to discuss how to realize their ideal style of working and improve work efficiency across generational, divisional, and gender boundaries.
As part of our personnel development efforts, we participated in a competition in which participants use information technology to produce a construction proposal within 48 hours. Our participants tackled the task using the same procedure they use in actual projects and learned how BIM* makes it possible to conduct design, structure, and facility simulations simultaneously to expedite design processes.
The Fathers' Seminar is designed to boost awareness of work-life balance. The Seminar encourages male employees to be more involved in family life and promotes a better understanding and awareness of issues related to childbirth and child caring.
Dialog in the Dark, a key component of the induction process for new employees, involves walking and eating in a totally darkened room with the aid of visually impaired assistants. The experience is designed to promote an awareness of issues such as diversity, trust and reliance, and consideration for others. This will in turn encourage an greater understanding and appreciation of the importance of quality in the broadest sense.
New workplace design initiatives aim to transform the workplace environment in line with changing work patterns and work practices. The Free Address scheme, introduced at Head Office and the Sapporo branch office, has already proven effective in improving communication among employees.
