Employee volunteer activities

Taisei strives to provide its employees with opportunities to participate in volunteer activities in order to encourage them to join such activities.

Volunteer Activities in Ishinomaki City

At the request of the Ishinomaki Disaster Recovery Support Council, we immediately provided material and equipment supplies (water tanks, shovels, wheelbarrows, etc.). Our employees also assisted in interviewing local residents to identify their needs and submitted all information gathered about earthquake victims to the Council.

Participation in the Tokyo Greenship Action project

Taisei participates in the Tokyo Greenship Action project sponsored by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. In this project, administrative agencies, business firms, nonprofit organizations and other groups work together in order to protect the precious natural environment such as the few forests and natural woodland that are left in Tokyo's mountain districts and hilly areas, as well as thickly wooded areas in urban districts. In 2009, Taisei participated in activities carried out in the Mt. Nanakuni green preservation area in Machida City in June and the Kiyose Matsuyama green preservation area in Kiyose City in November. These activities included cutting undergrowth, attaching name plates to trees and observing nature. Through these volunteer activities, the participants enjoyed experiencing nature and realized the importance of protecting greenery. The induction program for new employees was held at the Mt. Nanakuni Green Preservation Area in April 2010, in the form of the first ever hands-on environmental training program conducted by Taisei. A nature observation session was held in the morning, followed by bamboo cutting, clearing of fallen timber, tree thinning, roadbed leveling work on the Kamakura Kodo road, etc. in the afternoon. This environmental training program enabled the new employees to experience nature as well as the importance of preserving community forests, etc.

Participating in creating nesting boxes for dormice

In March 6, 2011, 45 Taisei employees and their families volunteered to participate in an activity to create nest boxes for dormice, tree-dwelling rodents, which are designated as a protected species. Under the guidance of Mr. Shusaku Minato of the KEEP association, they visited dormice habitats and pathways. So far, we have made 1,342 dormouse nests. In addition to Kiyosato, where this event was held, these boxes were also sent to dormice habitats nationwide such as Oki Island and Nagasaki.

Eco-cap campaign

Taisei separates the caps from PET bottles when collecting them after their contents have been consumed in its offices, construction sites and other workplaces. By promoting the recycling of the caps collected so that they can be reused as construction materials, the company contributes to reductions in CO2 emissions that would occur if the caps were incinerated for disposal. The company also delivers vaccines to children in developing countries using profits derived from the sale of the caps. This campaign is being carried out at 200 locations nationwide such as Taisei head office, and its branch offices and construction sites. In fiscal 2010, Taisei collected five million caps, the largest number collected in the construction industry, and donated vaccines to 6,200 people.

Eco-cap campaignThe eco-cap campaign has become regular practice among the employees as part of the company’s other efforts regarding separated trash collection.
