Contributions to local communities

Great East Japan Earthquake Relief Efforts

Collection of Relief Donations

We affirmatively responded to the Japan Federation of Construction Contractors' call for collecting relief donations. We also solicited contributions from Taisei Group employees and Seiyukai (our retiree association) and submitted the collected donations to the Yomiuri Light and Humanity Association.

Volunteer Activities in Ishinomaki City

At the request of the Ishinomaki Disaster Recovery Support Council, we immediately provided material and equipment supplies (water tanks, shovels, wheelbarrows, etc.). Our employees also assisted in interviewing local residents to identify their needs and submitted all information gathered about earthquake victims to the Council.

Social Contributions at Construction Sites

Taisei's domestic and overseas branches and construction sites conducted approximately 760 activities that contributed to local communities in FY 2010. Some examples of those activities are introduced below.

Acceptance of Student Interns

Since fiscal 2010, the Institute of National Colleges of Technology Japan has been sending students at technical colleges to overseas construction sites for training. In cooperation with their program, Taisei accepted three trainees at the Bosphorus Rail Tube Crossing Tunnel site in Turkey.

Donations and Visits to an Orphanage and a Leprosarium in Suburban Hanoi

To help children of poor families and suffering patients celebrate the beginning of 2011, Vinata International Joint Venture Co., Ltd. donated to an orphanage and a leprosarium in suburban Hanoi. The donations funded a New Year's party at the orphanage. Taisei employees attended the party as volunteers.

Recognition for Wheelchair Donation

At the construction site for the redevelopment of the Nishi- Shinjuku Hatchome Naruko District, the Taisei foremen's association took the initiative and discussed how to return local residents' hospitality. They decided to design and sell original stickers. Using the proceeds from the sale, they donated six wheelchairs, for which they received a statement of gratitude from the Shinjuku Social Welfare Conference.

The Taisei Technology Center's Social Contributions

The Taisei Technology Center offers facility tours for students, especially elementary school children from surrounding areas, and other visitors. In addition, the Technology Center engages in the following activities:

Employees Cooperate with Private Corporate Training for Teachers

Taisei participated in a training program for elementary and middle school educators at private companies in Tokyo conducted at the end of August 2010. The training, sponsored by the Japan Institute for Social and Economic Affairs, is intended to raise mutual understanding through participation in various training conducted by private companies and to enable teachers to convey their experiences to students and use those experiences in teaching.

TABLE FOR TWO program

We contribute to the TABLE FOR TWO (TFT) program, which was started to resolve the mutually opposed problems of famine in developing countries and obesity and similar lifestyle- related illnesses in developed countries. Each time an employee consumes a meal from the Technology Center restaurant's healthy menu, we donate twenty yen to the TFT Secretariat to fund school meals in developing countries.

Supporting Independence for Persons with Disabilities

members of Hikari, the Higashi-Totsuka district activity center for persons with disabilities, directly sell bread they baked at Hikari. We support assisting persons with disabilities in learning to lead independent daily and social lives through customer service training.
